- German legal education
German legal education is fundamentally different from its American counterpart. The following intends to familiarize the non-German reader with basic concepts and terms necessary to understand the contents of this website.
Readers of this website should keep in mind that Germany is a civil law jurisdiction based on Roman and Germanic law, not a common law jurisdiction like the US. Likewise, Germany's education system is not based on the Anglo-Saxon model, but mainly on traditions dating back to the middle ages and on ideas developed by Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859).
