At our annual kick-off event this year, together with our partner GACC South, we gave our members and friends an up-to-date overview of the mandatory know-how for their successful transatlantic business, in particular current legal issues, including the supply chain due diligence law in combination with the Buy American Act, employee vaccine mandates, and the Biden Administration’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure plan.
Speakers:
Dr. Marcus A. Ernst is a member of the bar in New York and Germany and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Dr. Ernst holds an LL.B. from the University Bonn Law School and LL.D. (Dr. iur./PhD) magna cum laude from the University Regensburg Law School and an LL.M. in Corporate Law from the New York University Law School, New York, NY. In addition, he attended post-graduate courses in Merger & Acquisitions at the Leonard Stern School of Business at New York University. Prior to founding the firm, he practiced international corporate and securities law with Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in New York and wrote and co-authored books and articles on the German and United States legal system. His practice focuses on advising corporate entities and high net worth individuals in the US and Europe in corporate and commercial matters. Dr. Ernst’s clients range from large listed stock corporations to medium-sized enterprises and family-run partnerships and he accompanies corporate clients in restructurings, mergers, spin-offs and changes of form. He also advises on all measures of corporate structuring, the preparation and conduct of shareholder meetings, on changes in management and on the liability of shareholders, board members and executives. Dr. Marcus A. Ernst specializes in strategic consultation regarding brand creation and selection and advises clients in the area of contracts, in particular with regard to negotiating, such as licensing, merchandising, and coexistence agreements. In addition Dr. Ernst is counsel to film and television actors, production companies, talent agencies, agents, and other industry members. Dr. Ernst is fluent in English and German.

Manuel “Manny” Schönhuber
Based in Texas, Manny is a native German and focuses his legal practice on counseling and representing German and other European companies in the U.S. He assists his clients with all aspects of the market entry stage and acts as their outside General Counsel. Manny also assists with his clients’ representation in state and federal court as well as arbitration proceedings throughout Texas. Manny received his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center and his Bachelor in Management summa cum laude from Saint Leo University, Florida.

Elisabeth Wagner has joined the GACC South in July 2021. Originally from Germany, she brings international experience in communications, customer relations, and account management. She has previously worked for the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and global communications agencies engaging with German and US clients in the IT and Technology sector. Based in Houston, Elisabeth is responsible for Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oklahoma at the GACC South. She possesses a Master in Literature and a MBA.
Introduction:
André Philip Pantel is Managing Director of the Deutsch-Amerikanische Juristen-Vereinigung (German-American Lawyers Association, DAJV) since 2018. After an apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank and a law degree, he worked, among other things, as editorial director of a law magazine. Before joining DAJV, he held a senior position responsible for events at Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
