Become a global leader

The Penn Carey Law LLM is a rigorous, full-time academic program designed for lawyers trained outside the United States. This general LLM degree allows customize your curriculum to focus on a specific area of law or to explore new interests. You can also choose from two concentrations: Intellectual Property and Technology Law and Global Security, Sustainability, and Human Rights.

As a Penn Carey LLM student, you can enroll in the Wharton Business and Law Certificate (“WBLC”) taught by leading Wharton faculty, the WBLC program is exclusively for Penn Carey Law LLM students. This program runs concurrently with the LLM program and does not require a separate application.

Your LLM at Penn Carey Law begins with a five-week five-credit Pre-term Program prior to the start of the fall semester. This innovative program provides an academic foundation in the U.S. legal system as well as social, cultural, and professional opportunities. By September, you are prepared for your classes alongside JDs and to fully integrate into Penn Carey Law’s collegial community.

Scholarships / Financial Aid Information

Attending law school in the United States is a significant financial investment.

We offer highly competitive merit University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School Graduate Program Scholarships, including: General Merit Scholarships, Human Rights Scholarships, Fulbright Partner Scholarships (Belgium/Luxembourg, Ireland and France); Kübler Scholarship; Imasogie Scholarship; Duke Scholarship; and Thouron Scholarship (University wide).

Many of our students receive scholarships from their employers, governments, or another third party. Other students are able to pay their expenses with their own savings or rely on family members for loans. Still others are able to receive loans or other financial aid from their home country.
Because our ability to award assistance is limited, we encourage prospective students to seek other funding sources as early as possible.

Application requirements

Applicants to the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School’s LLM, LLCM and SJD programs are required to use LSAC’s services available at llm.lsac.org. As we will receive all materials via LSAC, please refrain from sending any materials directly to the Law School.
